Kathmandu
Kathmandu, Kathmandu!!
Ancient city
Long history
City of temples
City of kings
City of living goddess Kumari
City of Pashupatinath and Swoyambhu
One of a kind
Our interesting epic, beloved Kathmandu
full of stories, sweet and bitter
dear to everyone, abused by all
The countless processions in city streets
the theme of politician speeches,
amalgamation of communities
a potpourri of wants and needs;
laborer in search of wage,
misery in price rise,
hungry in search of food
a relentless struggle of loss and gain
everything is here.
small shrines and flower-adorned deities
along the busiest and narrowest streets,
fruit sellers, flute sellers, vegetable walas
ancient temples
The raindrops on the roofs
the mountain breeze to pacify troubled souls
serene surrounding
hills covered by mist.
So is my Kathmandu
Bhanubhakta`s Alakapuri Kantipuri Nagari
And Bob Seger`s k-k-k katmandu
And I wish the time stopped here
